When Sandi told me she was riding her bike from EKC to Tapawingo I responded, as did everyone else she told this to, “Are you out of your frickin’ mind?”. This was last year, the ride is underway, and I still think she’s nuts.
She didn’t train on her bike as much as I would have liked but when I suggested this might make her unable to complete the ride she simply said, “Doesn’t matter, I’m determined to make the ride and that will get me through.” That shut me up; her picture is next to the word “determination” in the dictionary. When she sets her mind to something I usually just get out of the way to avoid being trampled.
I’m still apprehensive – she just missed a potential tornado touchdown on Wednesday – fifteen consecutive days on a bike is a big deal for anyone who doesn’t ride much but I have no doubt she will complete the ride. On schedule.
Sandi is totally committed to Circle; this ride is just one aspect of her dedication to the organization she founded, developed, grew and deeply loves. She treasures the weeks of camping at both camps. She spends the entire year planning, scheduling, documenting, fundraising and organizing for those weeks. Sandi’s bond with Circle is profound. She explains it elsewhere in this blog much better than I.
You go, girl!
